Hello Beautiful founder, Ava DuVernay’s, critically acclaimed film ‘I Will Follow’ which chronicles the day in the life of one African American woman struggling with the death of a loved one and enormous family tension, debuted last week to thunderous applause. Following a review by critic Roger Ebert, who called it “one of the best films I’ve seen about the loss of a loved one”, the film doubled the takings per screen of the only other film out with a predominately Black cast, ‘Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son’. Not bad for an independent film only released in 5 cities!

In light of such runaway success, the film’s screening locations is set to be expanded from only 5 screens in 5 cities, to 22 screens in 15 cities! In addition to the original cities, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Seattle and Philadelphia, the film (from March 18), can be seen in;

Chicago

San Fransisco

Boston

Houston

Dallas

Detroit

Oakland

Miami/ Ft. Lauderdale

Charlotte

Jersey City

‘I Will Follow’, is the first release for the African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement (AFFRM), which aims to promote quality African American films throughout the country, and ‘I Will Follow’ definitely fits the criteria. The film portrays intense human emotion, and the stunning performances by Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Michole White, Blair Underwood and Dijon Talton, are heartbreaking and believable. This weekend, you KNOW you want to make time to see this film! As BET film critic Clay Cane said;

“Black film could soon become an extinct species if we don’t stand together and do something! AFFRM is a community effort. So if you love black film, please participate. All you have to do is come to the movies when we’re in your town. It’s a simple, but revolutionary act.”

See you at the cinema!
