While it appeared obvious that the Cavs were going to select Jonas Valanciunas, they surprised everyone by selecting Tristan Thompson, the power forward from University of Texas. Thompson, while offensively rough around the edges (he only shoots 48.7% from the free throw line), is pretty solid on the defensive end. He averaged 7.8 rebounds per game including 3.8 offensive boards per game in his final college season.  And let’s not forget that Cleveland did manage to select the best player in the draft in Kyrie Irving.
