CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

Cleveland Police choppers haven’t been on ‘regular’ patrols all summer, and 19 Action News wants to know why!

Sources report that for months, one of the choppers has been grounded and another only used for special operations. This, after the City of Cleveland let a maintenance contract expire.

Cleveland Officers rave about the value of their eyes in the sky, but the chopper’s been grounded before by budget problems and now because of an expired contract.

How could this happen?

The Chief’s office blames it on snags with a new computerized system for city purchase orders, which is supposed to make government more efficient.

19 Action News has been told the choppers will be back up soon…whatever that means.
