NEW YORK (CNN) – Macy’s plans to fill 78,000 temporary positions – an early Christmas gift for job seekers.
The retailer says it needs the new employees to staff Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores, call centers, distribution centers and warehouses for the holiday season.
In total, the company is planning to hire 4 percent more workers than it did a year ago.
Most of the seasonal positions are part-time. But, in some cases, the company says the positions could lead to permanent jobs.
Macy’s stock rose 2 percent following Monday’s announcement.
