(WOIO) -
Concerns over possible Listeria contamination has prompted Giant Eagle to pull shredded iceberg lettuce from store shelves.
F.M. Shredded Lettuce – UPC 3003430195 - is being recalled. It was processed by River Ranch.
There are no reports of any local customers sickened by the shredded lettuce, but the grocery store chain wants to be safe.
For questions or concerns please call Giant Eagle Customer Care at 1-800-553-2324 or River Ranch at 1-800-762-7708. Click HERE for more from Giant Eagle.
Listeria primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems. However, rarely, persons without these risk factors can also be affected.
The risk may be reduced by recommendations for safe food preparation, consumption, and storage.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has more on listeria.
