CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

19 Action News is investigating a report of an attempted murder inside the Cleveland Clinic.

We’ve learned the suspected attacker and the victim were both patients. It happened weeks ago, but records show a warrant for the suspect’s arrest since he didn’t show up for court.

Reports show one patient tried to kill another patient by smothering him. And according to court records, the attacker is now on the run.

19 Action is telling you a story from inside the clinic that has nothing to do with its slogan about “world class care” instead attempted murder.

Charges have been filed against a man named Kevin Barrie. Barrie and the victim, Norman Horwedel, were patients in the same room.

The records show Horwedel was unable to protect himself due to medications and health issues.

19 Action News reporter Ed Gallek went looking for Barrie at an address in Lakewood but no one there knew him.

We also called a phone number for him and it turned out to be a movie theater. In fact Barrie has a warrant for his arrest for not showing up for court.

The latest case comes months after a murder on the campus of St. Vincent Charity Hospital. A patient accused of beating to death another patient. That happened in a wing leased out to another healthcare agency.

As for the attempted murder at the clinic, Cuyahoga County prosecutors said they couldn’t talk about it because of patient medical records.

The clinic’s police force is handling this but the clinic refused to release its police report. They said they don’t have a mug shot from any arrest of Kevin Barrie either.

The clinic did release a statement. It stated the usual caring about patient safety but said nothing though about the attack itself. Not even if the patients involved knew each other before or what triggered this.
