CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

The President of St. Ignatius High School released recent letters to alumni addressing complaints of sexual abuse stemming from the 1950’s and 1970’s.

Rev. William Murphy S. J. says St. Ignatius collected 33 complaints which were then sent to Chicago- Detroit Province of the Jesuits for further investigation and follow-up. Some of the 33 complaints may not be the legal definition of sexual abuse.

There are 6 perpetrators, 5 of whom were Jesuits at the time of the incident and one which was a lay teacher.

Of the six suspects, 3 may still be alive and 1 is under supervised care out of state.

The most recent incident occurred more than 30 years ago.

At this time, there are no indications that anyone currently working or volunteering at St. Ignatius was involved with the incidents of alleged sexual abuse in any way.
