EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio – Police have named a suspect in the shooting death of Demitri Mayers,17, of East Cleveland.

Detectives named 17-year-old Dewome Lee as the gunman. Mayers was killed Thursday night in the 14700 block of Elderwood Avenue in East Cleveland.

Several witnesses from the scene said they saw him shoot and kill Mayers after an argument over clothing Lee had borrowed, East Cleveland police said.

Lee is supposed to be on house arrest following a home invasion. His mother told police that Lee cut off his ankle bracelet and hasn’t been seen since.

“Christmas just won’t be enjoyable anymore,” Tameia Mayers, Demetri’s mother, said. Mayers’ parents described him as a good kid who liked to crack jokes. The student at Shaw High School was getting ready to take a bus to Atlanta to visit his mother for Christmas when the shooting happened.
