CLEVELAND – A police chase in Cleveland involving a bank robbery suspect and a child in the car ended in a crash on the city’s west side Friday afternoon.

The car police were chasing crashed into a utility police near West 110 th and Lake Avenue at about 1:10 p.m.

Police dispatchers said at least one of the people in the car is a suspect in a bank robbery that happened Friday morning in Ohio City.

NewsChannel5’s Michael Baldwin was at the scene said the man who driving the car was taken from the scene in an ambulance to MetroHealth Medical Center. A woman who was a passenger in the car was in handcuffs and a 1-year-old child was pulled from the car. Baldwin said there was a lot of cash scattered on the floor of the driver’s side of the car.

Here’s how it happened: According to the FBI, a man robbed the Key Bank branch on West 25 th a little after 9 a.m. Friday. The man walked up to the teller, claimed he had a gun and got away with about $2,200 in cash, police said.

The key part of the description was the suspect’s getaway car. A witness told police the man got into a yellow Ford Mustang that had damage to the passenger side – and it was driven by a woman.

Cleveland police spotted the car at about 1 p.m. near West 76 th and Colgate – and tried to pull it over. The driver kept going but eventually crashed into two cars before hitting a pole. The chase lasted about two minutes.

Police said the man suffered non-life threatening injuries. The woman was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries and the child was not hurt. Officers said the adults will be arrested after they’re treated for their injuries.
