CLEVELAND – A water main break near Shaker Square in Cleveland has caused a road to be shut down.

The break happened at about 7:30 a.m. Monday on North Moreland – just north of Shaker Square next to Dewey’s Coffee.

A water department official said a 30-inch water main broke and crews were able to get the water turned off. No one nearby was affected, as crews were able to redirect the water through alternate pipes.

Police were trying to put of barricades to block traffic, but our crew at the scene said drivers were apparently going around the barricades.

A police officer at the scene said this water main break could turn into a bigger problem, since it’s carrying away sub soil and asphalt could be next.

North Moreland will remain closed between Shaker Square and Cormere Avenue for most of the afternoon, while repairs are made.
