Following three months of intensive coroner’s autopsy and toxicology research, it has been definitively determined that the cause of death for beloved singer/entertainer Vesta Williams was “natural death” from “hypertensive heart disease.”  It is the Williams family’s wish that this information be immediately shared with Vesta’s fans.

On Thursday September 22, 2011, singer/songwriter Vesta Williams (53) – best known for her 1988 classic #1 R&B  smash “Congratulations” was found dead in her El Segundo, California hotel room. This sudden and completely unexpected passing left the music industry shocked and saddened. A warm home-going service at West Angeles Church of God and Christ on October 4, 2011, was attended by family, friends and celebrity notables such as singers Freda Payne and Miki Howard, actresses Loretta Devine, Jackeé Harry, members of jazz super group Fourplay, record executive Jesus Garber, and music publishing executive Brenda Andrews, among many others.  Official proclamations and resolutions poured in from political heavyweights including U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters.

In a statement prepared by Williams’ family, they expressed:

“We take extreme comfort in the cherished times that we shared with Vesta over the years, and the knowledge that her life brought joy and happiness to so many people around the world.”
