CLEVELAND – The bodies of two people have been recovered following the collapse of a Cleveland business on Brookpark Road Tuesday evening.

According to the Cleveland Fire Department, they arrived at Brookpark Road and West 48th Street at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Our crews at the scene said the building houses Ideal Builders Supply and Fuel Company. Workers were cutting beams from the building’s second floor when it fell in a direction they weren’t expecting. The collapse happened at the back of the building, away from Brookpark Road.

Originally, dispatch said that no injuries were reported, but then NewsChannel5 was told that emergency crews were searching for two.

“We were told that they were cutting some beams and the building fell,” a fire official said. “We’re already bringing in excavating equipment to remove beams and debris so we can get to those two individuals.” Fire officials said there were only two people inside the building at the time.

Shortly before 6 p.m., fire department spokesperson Larry Gray said one person has died. The Cleveland Fire Department is treating his as a recovering situation.

Early Wednesday morning, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that two bodies were recovered overnight.

No names have been released yet.

Ideal Builders Supply distributes construction materials like block retaining walls and patio landscaping blocks, according to its website idealbuilders.com .
