A Chicago mother who was shot, along with her daughter, while sleeping in their bedroom in West Pullman is speaking out about the incident.

Tonishia Allen, 24, was released from the hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg, but her 1-year-old daughter Jaliyah remains in intensive care after being shot in the head early Thursday.

Police have no suspects yet, but the family is asking the public for help finding whoever fired the shots into the Allen’s bedroom, according to ABC Chicago.

“We don’t do nothing to nobody; we didn’t deserve it,” Tonishia Allen told the station in an interview. (See video above.) “I just want justice for me and my baby.”

Jaliyah underwent hours of surgery Thursday, and doctors told the family that the toddler had suffered at least some brain damage.

Thursday’s shooting marks the family’s second tragic brush with violence. Allen’s mother, Tina Cornell, said she lost a daughter to gun violence in 2007.

It’s just crazy how we’re killing each other,” Allen’s grandfather told CBS Chicago last week. “The violence in the city is outrageous.”

Homicides and nonfatal shootings thus far this year alike have soared when compared to the same period of time last year in Chicago.
