Cleveland Police are investigating the shooting death of a Lakewood High School senior.

The shooting happened in the area of 3950 Bosworth on the city’s west side around 3:20AM Sunday morning.

Cleveland’s police investigation revealed that the victim – Sherwon Wanzo – was at a party at a home on Bosworth when he and another 18-year-old left in a vehicle. Wanzo was sitting in the passenger seat. The vehicle stopped in the area of Linnett Avenue, about a block away, possibly to confer with another person who was on foot, when shots were fired.

Wanzo suffered a gunshot wound to the head as he sat in the vehicle.  The driver drove a short distance and called for help.  EMS arrived along with First District Officers.  Wanzo was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries at around 5:30AM.

The Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit, along with the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the hospital for further investigation.  The final cause of death will be determined by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The driver of the vehicle could not provide a detailed description of the shooter; only that the shooter was a black man and that he was on foot in the area of Bosworth and Linnett.  First district officers searched for a suspect, suspect was not located.
