CLEVELAND – More than 12,000 customers are without power in northeast Ohio, presumably due to strong winds whipping through the region Monday.

FirstEnergy’s online outage center reported scattered outages in several counties.

Here are the latest numbers for the hardest hit counties, as of 2:30 p.m. Monday:

– Cuyahoga: 6,902

– Summit: 3,837

– Stark: 1,169

– Portage: 427

– Geauga: 178

NewsChannel5 Meteorologist Christine Ferreira said gusts have been up to 40 mph, and could top 50 mph as the day goes on. She said sustained winds are blowing at 20-30 mph.

Ferreira said a wind advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Monday for most of northeast Ohio. She said the strongest winds will blow closest to Lake Erie, and the winds will die down overnight into Tuesday.

Drivers reported waves crashing onto the Shoreway in Cleveland Monday morning as they were headed toward Cleveland.
