Hopefully, Jennifer Hudson can get rid of the nightmare. Jennifer Hudson takes the stand in the horrific family murder trial.

After 4 years of waiting, the murder trial against William Balfour, Jennifer Hudson’s brother-in-law and the man who’s accused of murdering her mother, brother, and 7-year-old nephew, has begun. Back in October 2008,  J. Hud’s mom Dranell and her brother Jason were found shot in her mother’s home in Chicago with her nephew Julian missing. Three days later Julian was found dead in Jason’s SUV 13 miles away. Today Jennifer was the first witness called to the stand to testify against her former brother-in-law for the killings and through an emotional testimony, she revealed that she never wanted Williams to be with her sister Julia in the first place.

“None of us wanted her to marry him. We did not like how he treated her.”

Prosecutors are saying that William threatened Julia on her birthday, the day before the murders and told  her that if she ever left , he was going to kill her and her family:

“If you ever leave me, I’m going to kill you, but I’m going to kill your family first.” She didn’t take him seriously, prosecutor James McKay said, because Balfour hadn’t acted on the threats before.

“Those were not idle threats. … They were deadly warnings of what was to come,” prosecutor Veryl Gambino told the Cook County jury.

The prosecution says that it all started when Julia received some balloons, a gift that William thought she got from a new boyfriend. They say he got upset and Julia told police that the day her family was killed, she left for work that morning and she said William stayed behind. The prosecution believes that William shot her mother in the living room and her brother as he was laying in bed before shooting little Julian in the head as he was laying behind the front seat of the SUV.

On the flip side, the defense thinks that theory is ridiculous because the gun was later found but it didn’t have William’s fingerprints or DNA on it. Even though gunpowder residue was found on his steering wheel, his lawyers say that doesn’t prove anything.

“As soon as that (that a celebrity was linked to the case) became known, they knew coverage would explode,”defense attorney Amy Thompson said. “The police were on the hook. They had to find their man and find him fast.”

There already seems as though there will be quite a few twists and turns in this trial.  Hopefully, justice is served if it’s proven that William did indeed pull the trigger.
