A year after the discovery of Phylicia Barnes’ body in the Susquehanna River, and 16 months after her disappearance, Baltimore police have arrested a man in her death.

Baltimore City police confirmed that Michael Johnson, the ex-boyfriend of the victim’s older sister, has been arrested in Barnes’ death.

Deena and Kelly Barnes are the older half-sisters of the late Phylicia

Barnes, of Monroe, N.C., was 16 when she disappeared in 2010 while visiting family in the Baltimore area. Police said Johnson was the last person to see her alive.

Barnes’ body was found in the Susquehanna River in April 2011 by workers at the Conowingo Dam who were clearing tropical storm and flooding debris.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said prosecutors would release more information Thursday morning regarding the case and the arrest.

The body of Phylicia Barnes was recovered in April last year about 40 miles from where she was last seen in Baltimore, where she was visiting family when she vanished in 2010.

People spotted it in Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna River and and flagged down police, authorities said at the time.

The teenage girl said she was going out to get something to eat when she left a Baltimore residence where she’d been staying with her half-sister in December 2010.

Later, authorities said they feared she had been abducted or harmed.

More than 100 Baltimore police officers, state troopers and FBI agents had been working on the case, city officials said.
