New details on the exotic animal release in Zanesville that ended with the death of dozens of wild animals.

The animals owner, Terry Thompson, opened the cages of 56 exotic animals in October before committing suicide. Six animals remained in their cages, and 48 animals were shot and killed by deputies and officers. One monkey was eaten by a large cat.

Marian Thompson, Terry’s widow, asked for the six surviving animals – three leopards, two monkeys and a grizzly bear – to be returned back to her farm from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

The Ohio Agriculture Department will return the animals to Thompson, but they are not happy about it. They say they have no choice but to return them to Thompson.
