The NBA has a new team? Same team, different city. Goodbye, New Jersey! Brooklyn unveils logo for the Nets!!

Nearly a week after the New Jersey Nets played their final game in the Garden State, minority owner Jay-Z,along with his fellow company executives, have unveiled the team’s new Brooklyn-based logo.

Unveiled Monday (April 30), the team’s official attire and colorway will be black and white.

The Nets began settling into their new neighborhood Monday, unveiling new colors and logos at a sporting goods store on Flatbush Avenue, across the street from its soon-to-be-completed home arena, the $1 billion Barclays Center. “Hello Brooklyn,”‘ center Brook Lopezsaid. “I’ve been waiting a long time to say that. It’s very exciting.” Lopez was joined by coach Avery Johnson, General Manager Billy King, Bruce Ratner, the real estate developer and minority owner who was the catalyst behind the team’s relocation, and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. The team’s logo has already drawn comparisons to another renowned sports franchise.

The new primary logo – created by Brooklyn’s own JAY Z – retains the shield from its previous iteration and adds that iconic Brooklyn ‘B’ to the basketball that has been part of every logo since the franchise’s 1967 inception as the Americans. The Dodgers had their lettermark, and the Nets have added another model for the borough to bear. “Brooklyn,” of course, is spelled out below. Nets CEO Brett Yormarkcalled this “the new badge for Brooklyn,” and JAY Z believes the design’s boldness demonstrates confidence in the new direction. (CBS Sports)

Last week, Young Hov was spotted at the team’s final New Jersey game.

Jay-Z was in attendance to watch his New Jersey Nets play their final game at the Garden State before heading to their new home in Brooklyn last night (23rd April). The ‘Girls Girls Girls’ singer is a part owner of the team alongside Russian businessman Mikhail Prokhorov, and saw the side lose their game against the Philadelphia 76ers. The rapper was without wife Beyonce who he has recently attended a number of sporting matches at Madison Square Garden with to watch the New York Knicks. Jay wore a denim jacket and a pair of pink and blue trainers as he sat courtside sporting a “NY” cap. (Capital FM)

In September, Jay officially announced the Nets’ post-New Jersey team name.

On Monday morning, the entertainment mogul announced that the NBA Nets would have a new name once they take the court at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in approximately one year. “We’ve decided that the final name would be the Brooklyn Nets,” said the rapper who grew up only minutes away at the Marcy Houses and later at 560 State Street.
