Bobby Brown doesn’t blame Whitney Houston’s family for making him feel unwelcome at the Bodyguard star’s funeral.

“It wasn’t that I wasn’t invited. I was invited,” Bobby told Matt Lauer on “Today.”

While many speculated that Whitney’s family wanted to keep Bobby away from the funeral and Bobbi Kristina, he disputed those rumors.

“That’s not the type of family the Houston family is. They’re a great family, and I appreciate them very much,” said Bobby, before pointing the finger of blame at the security hired for the televised homegoing service.

“Whoever the security was there, asked me to have my entourage—which was my children—to sit somewhere else. After the third time of them coming to me, I felt a little disrespected by the security,” he said.

It’s been nearly three months since Whitney’s death. While he doesn’t admit to bad blood between him and his ex-wife’s family, Bobby hasn’t been able to express his condolences to Cissy Houston directly.

“I tried to reach out to Whitney’s mom. I haven’t been able to reach her yet,” he said. “I know she’s going through it deeply. She lost her only daughter. I love her dearly, and I’m here anytime she wants to talk,” he said.

Bobby also disputed rumors that there’s a divide between him and Bobbi. He said the two talk all the time, and he knows everything that’s going on with her.

“I am her father. She talks to me about everything,” said Bobby who has spoken to Bobbi about her rumored love affair with “play brother” Nick Gordon. “She’s a young lady. I would expect her to have a boyfriend. She would definitely tell me. Nick’s a good kid. I have nothing against Nick.”

Bobby did not deny that Bobbi has experimented with drugs, but he said it’s not a real concern for him right now.

“I will always be worried about that,” he said. “I know what she is actually doing. I think people are making assumptions of what my daughter is and how strong she is. People tend to want to control strong-willed people. That’s what I see.”

Despite the tabloid reports and accounts that Bobbi is heading for disaster, Bobby said he believes she’s got a good head on her shoulders.

“She’s a strong girl. Her mom taught her well. I think we raised her really well. She’s fine. She knows that her mom is gone, and she knows that she has to live,” he said
