CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

Cleveland Browns stadium is under construction for repairs.

The City of Cleveland is footing the bill for the repairs, after the Cleveland Browns game them an interest free loan.

The stadium opened in 1999 and it’s time to get to work protecting the massive investment.

A consultant looked over the stadium and recommended concrete work needed to be done on some landings and on some of the ramps.

“The consultant determined the concrete needed replaced for safety reasons,” said Jason Klar of Platform Contracting.

According to Klar, one of the managers of the project, rust on the girders supporting the concrete ramps isn’t causing a major problem yet, but it couldn’t be ignored.

“Well, eventually the steel will rust and the concrete will break down. We didn’t see any of that. They caught it early enough that it was not an imminent threat, in my opinion,” Klar said.

There are two main projects at the stadium right now, the concrete work and the seating work. In the 300 level, they tore apart all the seats, they’ll refurbish the metal and put the plastic back together. Same deal in the Dawg Pound, a complete do over of the benches.

A good portion of the club seat work is done, and crews are working to get the rest of the seats refurbished, and wrap up the concrete work in time for the July 29 Kenny Chesney concert.
