CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

Salvation Army residents are complaining about bed bugs. The Salvation Army’s Harbor Light Building is located on Prospect Avenue downtown.

Residents say it is hard to get a good night’s sleep, “Man, there were so many bed bugs…you pull your sheet off the mattress and you’re going to see them crawling around. I get bit every night at least three or four times.”

Executive Director Beau Hill says as with all the other homeless programs and populations in Cleveland, they have been struggling to get rid of bed bugs for years, because they serve a lot of transient clients.

Hill says they insist that all clothes that come in, are bagged and washed. They also made a significant investment in metal furniture, to eliminate places for the bed bugs to burrow, and they have an exterminator come in weekly.

In the past, bed bug infestations were mostly limited to sites where people sleep. However,  bed bug infestations are also found in a variety of non-residential sites, including commercial workplaces. The following precautions can be taken to help protect against transporting bed bugs home from the workplace and to keep the workplace bed bug free.
