There are foods out there that are known for their nutrients and other properties that help with brain function. Learn of these super-power foods that are literally great food for thought!

Salmon

Salmon belong to the group of fish that are rich in omega-3s. Many experts agree that salmon is essential in maintaining proper and sharp brain function.

Nuts & Seeds

Nuts and seeds are good sources of vitamin E. Seeds such as sunflower seeds provide a healthy dose of vitamin E that appears to shield neurons from cell-damaging free radicals. Researchers  from Harvard discovered that people who had a high intake of Vitamin E were 25 percent less likely to develop dementia.

Blueberries

Many call blueberries “Brainberries”; for the berries are known to help protect the brain from oxidative stress. The berries are also believed to reduce the effects of conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. A long term study conducted on humans by Harvard Researchers, as part of the Nurses’ Health Study found that those who ate more servings of blueberries and strawberries preserved their brain function to a greater degree than those who ate less.

Whole Grains

Whole grains are rich in vitamins B, C, D, and E. This makes whole grains a super food that helps prevent brain shrinkage linked to Alzheimer’s.

Eggs

Eggs are a super rich food for sharp brain activity. Their yolks are loaded with vitamin D. the vitamin helps break down the insoluble plaques that characterize Alzheimer’s Disease. In fact, Dr. Robin Miller from the sharecare.com website stated that: “…vitamin D helps your body clear out substances in the brain that are known to cause Alzheimer’s”.

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is known for its antioxidant properties. Dark chocolate also contains several natural stimulants that include caffeine. The stimulants in dark chocolate are known to enhance focus and concentration. There’s also a high production of endorphins, which helps improve mood.
