CHARLOTTE – Former Browns owner Art Modell is remembered at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. Delegates got word of Modell’s passing during Thursday morning’s Ohio Delegation Breakfast.

Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland said he didn’t know Modell personally, but is saddened to hear of his death.

“For someone who has such a personal persona, I am sure a lot of people will feel grievous about that,” he said.

Rep. Marcia Fudge said she had her run-ins with Modell over the years.

“Back in the day, things change. You know, people move away and you don’t see them. It wasn’t under the best circumstances, but clearly he did what was best for him, his family and his team. I think at some point we have to forgive and move forward,”  she commented.

Fudge said she understands many Browns fans will always despise Modell for moving the Browns out of Cleveland.

“I don’t begrudge anybody anything. It was tough times, but we’ve been through a lot of tough times as he. He went through a lot of tough times while he was in Cleveland with our community,”  Rep. Fudge said.
