CLEVELAND – Cleveland police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot and killed outside a food mart on the city’s east side late Thursday night.
Officers were called to the Urban Food Mart at the corner of East 79th Street and Cedar Avenue just before midnight for reports of a man lying on the ground outside the store.
Paramedics rushed the victim to Cleveland Clinic where he was later pronounced dead.
A store clerk tells NewsChannel5 the victim was approached, robbed, and shot by two people. It happened in the parking lot after he left the store.
According to detectives on scene, one person of interest is in police custody. Detectives are searching for a second suspect.
Detectives said this marks the 71st homicide of 2012 in Cleveland.
