A Florida man hi-jacked a passing car then forced the driver out so he could rush his pregnant girlfriend to hospital, police said.
Convicted criminal Robert Boudreaux, 31, was arrested in the hospital’s car park on Sunday after he refused to pull over for police as he erratically sped to ER.
Boudreaux carried out the carjacking after his girlfriend’s car ran out of gas and the couple had been walking for several miles, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
The expectant 22-year-old girlfriend then started feeling dehydrated and began bleeding, the police record states. But rather than stopping for help at the fire station they passed or using one of his two cell phones to call emergency services, the 31-year-old started flagging down cars.
Having no success, Boudreaux, who has been arrested more than 24 times, picked up his girlfriend and carried her into the path of an oncoming Buick. At first the 20-year-old driver refused to take them to the hospital but when an infuriated Boudreaux threatened to shoot him he let them both in, police said.
Even when the couple got to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Boudreaux continued to try and dodge the police – allegedly driving in circles.
He was eventually cornered and arrested on charges of armed carjacking, fleeing a law enforcement officer and driving with a suspended license.
The girlfriend was not identified and the status of the baby is not known, reported the Orlando Sentinel. Sunday’s arrest was Boudreaux’s third this year and he was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail. He has been sentenced for charges including cocaine possession, burglary, domestic violence, aggravated and prowling.
