CLEVELAND – General Electrical lighting is going to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of LED lighting to local landmarks in order to bring them up to date and cut the cost of current utility bills.
The company announced this morning that $200,000 will go towards illuminating Public Square and the West Side Market. It also announced plans for a $200,000 scholarship program with Case Western Reserve University, for students at the STEM school at its Nela Park Campus.
GE Lighting President and CEO, Maryrose Sylvester, announced these plans during a morning press conference.
“In a short few weeks, West Side Market will commemorate its 100th year anniversary,” Sylvester said. “GE Lighting saw a way to work with Ohio City Inc. to provide some much needed efficient lighting to help the West Side Market, to make them look more efficient contemporary, and to take them to into their new century of excellence.”
GE will also give LED lighting to its Winterfest lighting display on Public Square. The display has been on Public Square for 50 years, and will be in place for this year’s Winterfest on Nov. 24.
