SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio – An RTA bus driver was hit by two men on his bus in Shaker Heights Thursday night.

Shaker Heights police and RTA said it started around 5 p.m when two men who didn’t have fares tried to get on the full #40 bus. They said the suspects left the front entrance of the bus and then entered from the back.

Once on the bus, both men hit the driver once then left, police said. Police described the suspects as two black men between the ages 17 and 20, one in a black coat and one in a multi-colored coat.

The driver was treated at the scene on Chagrin Boulevard and Lee Road.

After a number of incidents in recent months, RTA has said they are looking at options to ensure driver safety, like a Plexiglass enclosure with a sliding door.
