CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

A plane experiences engine failure after take-off, but the pilot was able to turn around and land safely back at Hopkins.

American Airlines Flight 1295, a non-stop from Cleveland to Dallas-Fort Worth, took off from Hopkins at 1:40 p.m. Friday.

Minutes later, the plane had engine failure in flight.

Officials say this is not terribly unusual and that airplane, an MD-80, is designed to fly on one engine.

The pilot and crew always had full control of the plane.

There were 139 passengers and crew on board, nobody was injured.

American Airlines was working on re-booking the passengers.
