CLEVELAND – A video released this week is drawing widespread attention for its connection to a controversial rape trial in the city of Steubenville.

The vigilante hacktivist group known as Anonymous posted the 12-minute video of Steubenville High School students joking and laughing about the alleged rape of a girl.

One of the teen boys disturbingly describes an abused girl, alluding to her being “deader” than various dead celebrities and public figures. Uproarious laughter is overheard as the teens joke about rape.

The video allegedly references an incident reported to have happened on the night of Aug. 22. Two Steubenville football players have been charged with rape and kidnapping.

A December New York Times piece goes in-depth on the case that has torn apart a city deeply entrenched in football culture and is centered around social media evidence.

The Herald Star reports a rally will be held Saturday at noon regarding the teens’ trial, which is scheduled to be held in February.
