CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald told a packed City Club in Cleveland that the county’s new form of government is working.

FitzGerald said making the Cuyahoga County’s home appraisal process more efficient saved the county $5 million, $700,000 of which will be returned to local schools as the “spirit of reform” continues.

FiitzGerald also announced that the Medical Mart will now be called the Global Center for Health Innovation, while noting occupancy is now more than 50 percent. Tenants include a major health care IT company, HIMMS, which will lease an entire floor. Already, 70 conventions are booked at the facility beginning this summer.

HIMMS signing on means many other tenants will now want to be part of the Global Center for Health Innovation, FitzGerald explained, which will also mean a greater demand for downtown hotel space.

There are 4,100 hotel rooms in downtown Cleveland with 1,100 more in the planing stages.
