CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

With the Cleveland marathon about a month away organizers are now taking another look at security.

The explosions in Boston are already affecting plans for the May marathon.

The Cleveland Marathon draws tens of thousands of people from all over the world. So what if it draws people with bad intentions?

Cleveland police are bringing in bomb sniffing dogs. Police say they’ll check out trash cans and vehicles sitting in one place.

And now the marathon is planning to bring its own dogs too — days ahead of the race.

It’s something organizers have done after bomb threats to the Boston Marathon in the past.

“We will use them and bring them in as we have in the past. And you’ll see them along the race route within the next couple of weeks,” said one organizer.

Cleveland has also been adding more security cameras downtown, so it might be harder to get away with anything.

Police develop race day security much like security for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

In the end there’s no way to guarantee no problems, when it comes to a public event.

But police are already talking about taking more steps to keep the Cleveland Marathon from ending like the Boston Marathon.
