CLEVELAND – As was expected Wednesday morning, Cleveland City Council members approved newly drawn ward maps.

The new boundaries keeps the Tremont neighborhood in two wards instead of three. It also strengthens the Hispanic voting block in Ward 14.

The new ward ordinance passed by a vote of 14-4. The number of wards were reduced from 19 to 17.

Councilman Mike Polensek voted no saying the new boundaries disenfranchise Hispanic voters.
