STRONGVILLE, Ohio – Dozens of parents waited outside Strongsville High School, cheering the teachers on Saturday night as they voted to ratify a tentative contract they agreed on Friday night.

The head of the Strongsville SEA, Tracy Linscott, told NewsChannel 5 the teachers, “overwhelmingly” approved the new contract. Linscott said teachers and the superintendent had discussions to use a calamity day on Monday. The calamity day would allow for substitutes to leave the building and teachers to return to get things together. The school board now has to agree to this.

The contract will go to the school board at 9 a.m. Sunday in the Board of Education building to vote on the tentative agreement ratified by the SEA.

“We plan to have our teachers back in the classroom as soon as possible,” said David Frazee, board president. “The board wanted to be ready to cast their votes after the teachers union voted. Now we want to do all we can to bring our school district and community back together.”

If the board approves the contract, teachers could be back in the classrooms as early as Monday.
