Talk about a memorable performance.
Canadian jazz singer Alexis Normand delivered an unforgettable version of the Star-Spangled Banner at this weekend’s Memorial Cup between the Halifax Mooseheads and Portland Winterhawks.

Things started off normal enough, until she got to this line: “twilight’s first gleaming.”
Everything seemed to go downhill from there. From humming and making up the words, to leaving giant pauses all together, Normand had a rough one.
Luckily, despite a few stunned reactions, the crowd seemed to have sympathy for her and tried to help her fill in some of the gaps.
After the debacle, Normand told a sports website that she only prepared to sing O Canada, and did not know she was expected to sing America’s National Anthem.
She also apologized on Twitter later in the day, saying: “I’m embarrassed and deeply sorry. I wish I’d had more time to learn the American anthem. Thanks so much for the crowd’s help!”
Should we cut her a break because she is not American? Or should she have backed away before botching the Star-Spangled banner?
