*Filmmaker Tyler Perry recently opened up about his critics and the perceived lack of opportunities for black actresses in Hollywood during an interview with Oprah Winfrey airing tonight (Sunday. 05-26-13) on OWN.

Perry also addressed the criticism of his movies being malt liquor to the masses, as one critic put it, and he also quelled the notion of a conspiracy against black women for roles in major motion pictures and television.

“I don’t think it’s that as much as I think it is the stories that are being told, and the writers that are telling the stories,” he told Oprah. “You’re telling stories from your own experiences and your own life. You write about what you know.”

Perry added, “I don’t know if there is a conspiracy. I just feel like the storytellers are telling stories that don’t don’t include a lot of us. We need more storytellers and more people in power to give the strength to those storytellers to tell those stories.”
