CLEVELAND – It’s Election Day and the polls have opened around northeast Ohio.

There are a number of big races on the ballot today.

The biggest perhaps is the contest between incumbent Frank Jackson and challenger Ken Laci for Cleveland mayor.

NewsChannel5 will be following city council races today, not only in Cleveland but in many of the surrounding communities.

There are a number of school board and city tax levies on the ballot this year as well.

This year also brings with it two new gadgets at polling locations in Cuyahoga County.

It’s part of a pilot project by the board of elections to test the performance of electronic poll books, replacing the old paper poll books that list voter names and signatures.

New high-speed central scanner will be used to count ballots too.

Polls close at 7:30 tonight.

Keep checking back with NewsChannel5 and NewsNet5.com for details, information and updates on the races as they become available.
