DALLAS – The Browns have a new quarterback. But it isn’t “Tebow Time” in Cleveland.
Alex Tanney , an undrafted second-year player from Monmouth College in Illinois, tweeted Tuesday that his “new chapter” begins with the Browns. The team made it official just before 2 p.m.
He was signed off the practice squad in Dallas, according to the Cowboys website .
If the name sounds familiar, that’s likely because you saw the viral video on YouTube of Tanney making seemingly impossible trick shots.
The Cowboys were reportedly impressed with Tanney’s “arm strength, accuracy and mobility.”
Dallas News blogger Brandon George says Tanney’s record-breaking numbers made him “one of the greatest DIII quarterbacks ever.”
Football fans in northeast Ohio may have already caught their first glimpse of him too. Tanney played the entire second half for Dallas in this year’s Hall of Fame game in Canton .
If Jason Campbell misses too much time and Brandon Weeden can’t solidify his grip on the quarterback position, there’s a chance Tanney becomes the 21st to take the starting job for the Browns since 1999.
