Just as the temperatures have taken a cold dip, so have contributions into The Salvation Army’s iconic red kettles.

Donations are down across the Northeast Ohio Division of The Salvation Army. Currently off pace by more than $500,000.

The red kettle campaign raised $4.6 million dollars last year while this year the kettle goal across the division’s footprint stretching from Ashtabula to Akron, to Cleveland, Toledo, Youngstown and beyond is $4.8 million dollars. The increased goal reflects the growing needs in each of those communities.

A later than normal Thanksgiving Day shortened the kettle season by five days this year and many believe that is why kettle contributions have dropped. Donations collected during the holiday season support programs and services provided by The Salvation Army year round.
