CLEVELAND – Beginning in April of 2014, the United Airlines hub located at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport will make a significant amount of cuts.
A reliable source confirmed that the United hub carrier in Cleveland alerted employees of major changes to come.

The source told NewsChannel5 that the Cleveland hub has not been profitable for more than a decade, and has suffered tens of millions of dollars in annual losses.
Changes will leave United airlines flying 72 daily flights to and from Cleveland, opposed to the usual 199 flights a day, according to the Associated Press.

These reductions will be made in one-third increments in the early part of the months April, May, and June.
Once these changes are fully implemented in June, United airlines will offer 72 peak-day flights from Cleveland, serving 20 destinations on a non-stop basis.
According to sources, with these changes, United has no other option than to reduce staffing in Cleveland.
About 430 airport positions could be impacted by these changes, as well as 40 catering personnel positions in Cleveland.
Sources said, while the decision was based on continued losses in Cleveland, the timing of the flight reductions have been accelerated due to new federal regulations.
