Lawyers for Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice called the incident with his fiancée that led to his arrest in Atlantic City a “very minor physical altercation,” but a video of Rice dragging a seemingly unconscious Janay Palmer out of an elevator told a different story…and has now led to a summons.

Issued by the Atlantic City Municipal Court, the summons alleges that Rice committed assault on Palmer by striking her with his hand and rendering her unconscious. Palmer was also issued a summons for striking Rice with her hand.

Both were arrested for simple assault after the incident at a casino early Saturday. A video obtained and posted online by TMZ  Wednesday shows Rice lifting the woman by her arms out of an elevator at the Revel Casino and laying her on the ground. She appears limp as he pulls her legs away from the elevator doors and later props her up.

Rice’s attorney, Michael Diamondstein, told The Baltimore Sun that the footage is authentic but incomplete.

“The video that has been put up by TMZ shows the very end of what transpired between Ray and his fiancee,” said Diamondstein, who said he and Rice would “not try this case in the media.”

The prosecutor’s office released a statement, saying the domestic violence incident involving Rice has been referred to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

The incident will also be reviewed by the NFL under the league’s personal conduct policy.

Rice is due in court next Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, Ravens nose tackle Haloti Ngata has been chosen to replace Rice at the Maryland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ kickoff party on Friday night for its annual March of Animals event.

A spokeswoman for the organization said it was a mutual decision because the two sides didn’t want to take the focus off the animals and the cause.
