*It looks like Harpo Films is back in production!

As previously reportedOprah Winfrey and her film company are taking on a new film project — taking the Hollywood slave narrative up a notch with the bestselling novel, Sue Monk Kidd‘s “Invention of Wings.”

The bestselling novel will be the basis of her company’s second film in 15 years!

The last film the company produced was “The Great Debaters” in 2007.

The acclaimed novel is garnering praise. A Dallas critic called it, “as close to perfect as any [book] I’ve ever read.”

The film — like the novel — will follow a preteen abolitionist and the slave she’s given through time changes over the next three decades the film is set.

Winfrey called the novel, “a rich narrative, compelling characters, and a rare historical perspective that we know will be the ideal foundation for a wonderful film.”

The expectations for the film are high, but Kidd’s last bestseller “The Secret Life of Bees” — although a good film effort — was still considered a critical and commercial underdog in film.
