*When you’ve had 17 top 10 albums and your latest release does underwhelming business, what do you do?

If you’re Mariah Carey, you part ways with your manager. In this case, that would be Jermaine Dupri. According to Billboard, Carey did just that with when she ended the pair’s relationship as manager and client.

The diva’s decision came amid low sales of “Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse.” The album, which Dupri executive produced, only sold 83,000 copies in the US. Considering Carey’s track record with past albums, her latest clocks in as a disappointment with the lowest first week total for a studio album in the singer’s career with 58,000 copies sold in its first week.

Nevertheless, Dupri remains optimistic regarding his future with his former client, despite being let go as Carey’s manager.

“I’m a very hands-on person when it comes to my work,” he told Billboard. “I put my all into every project. But when I’m not allowed to do what I do, then I know it’s time for me to move on. Mariah and I enjoy working together and will continue to make great music together in the future.”
