COLUMBUS — It’s true, snow ‘days’ are history. Ohio has now switched to an hour based schedule instead of required days in school. Instead of making up missed days, schools will have to make up missed hours.

Under the new system, a typical school has well over the minimum hours, so they could have 20 days worth of hours banked. This means having less time to make up if school is delayed or cancelled.

School districts believe it will mean more flexibility with their days. In Cleveland, it means the district will have six days when parents go to school, not their kids. Parents will be able to go to school to visit their child’s teachers in Cleveland six times this year. The district adjusted teacher schedules so it was convenient for parents.
