CLEVELAND — When you see a flag at half-staff Thursday, remember those who lost their lives in the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Governor John Kasich ordered the flags to be flown as such from sunrise until sunset.

Kasich and Lt. Governor Mary Taylor issued a Patriot Day resolution that said in part:

Thirteen years ago this month, our nation was struck by terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of approximately 3,000 innocent men, women and children. We urge all Ohioans to observe Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance with appropriate ceremonies, activities and remembrance services to honor the victims of the attacks on September 11th as well as pay tribute to the brave men and women of our armed forces and first responders who stand ready to pay the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the freedoms we cherish most.”

Kasich also asked that all Ohioans observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. That’s the moment American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport will hold its annual 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on the public side of Security Checkpoint B.

TSA’s Color Guard will present arms and the TSA choir will sing the National Anthem.

The event is public. The checkpoint will be temporarily closed to passengers during the event.

A Safety Forces Blood Drive will be held at the Senior Center in Parma in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives during the attacks.

A ceremonial first pitch at the Indians game will be thrown by Major George Polarek, the director of the Salvation Army’s 9/11 World Trade Center relief efforts.

Polarek managed logistics and services at Ground Zero for the survivors and families of those affected by 9/11.

A Marine Corps Color Guard will also present the colors.
