Today is a day that has been years in the making for the families of Anthony Sowell’s victims.
At 4 p.m., ground will be broken on a memorial to honor the 11 women Sowell killed.

Today also marks five years since the first victim was found.
The memorial will be built at the site of Sowell’s home on Imperial Avenue. The house was torn down after Sowell was sentenced to death in 2011.

Organizers of the memorial are still trying to raise $250,000 to turn the vacant lot into a memorial. There are plans to set up a fund at Key Bank where people can donate to the memorial.
