CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) –

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason announced that 54-year-old Dave Kerekes was indicted on charges of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance and possessing criminal tools. The Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, conducted the investigation with assistance from ICAC partners, Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department, Parma Police Department, and Brecksville Police Department.

In December 2011, an investigator with the Ohio ICAC Task Force was conducting an investigation into the use of peer-to-peer file sharing programs for the possession and distribution of child pornographic images and videos. While conducting the investigation, it was discovered that a computer with an IP address associated with David Kerekes’ Parma residence was sharing a file containing child pornography.

On February 24, 2012, a search warrant was executed at Kerekes’ residence. Members of the Ohio ICAC Task Force seized three computer hard drives, forty-five external hard drives, and several thousand CDs from Kerekes’ residence. Members of the Ohio ICAC Task Force also seized seven firearms from the residence. Kerekes was subsequently arrested. Members of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office assisted in transporting the evidence for forensic examination. Due to the volume of the evidence seized, two trips had to be made. An initial forensic examination of six CDs with a title indicative of child pornography revealed over forty child pornographic videos. Some of the specific videos were saved to one of the CDs in November 2005.

Prosecutor Mason said, “Internet predators, collectors, and traders of child pornography are part of the seedy element out there who exploit our children. Whether you live in a small town or a large city, these sexual deviants pose a serious threat to our children.”

Kerekes was indicted on 40 counts: pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor (x37), illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance (x2), and possessing criminal tools (x1). Arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 am on March 19, 2012.

County Prosecutor Bill Mason created the Northeast Ohio ICAC Task Force in 2000 to combat the rise of Internet crimes against children. In 2003, Mason was asked by the U.S. Department of Justice to expand the Task Force across Ohio, and serve as the state-wide Task Force chairman. The Ohio ICAC Task Force has continued to grow and consists of 314 law enforcement partner agencies across Ohio: 170 Police Departments, 72 County Sheriffs, 61 County Prosecutors, and 11 other agencies that include the FBI, US Treasury, US Attorney, Metropark Rangers, and U.S. Marshals.
