In third place this weekend at the box office is For Colored Girls, the week’s only other new wide release. Opening at a rather light 2,127 theaters this weekend, Tyler Perry’s latest directorial effort took in $20.1 million, which is slightly less than most expected, but a strong debut nonetheless.

In fact, because of its low theater count, the movie actually generated a $9,450 per location average, is hardly trails Due Date’s $9,985 mean by very much at all.

Out of the nine movies Tyler Perry has directed, For Colored Girls was his second lowest opening, with the first being “Daddy’s Little Girls” which took in $11.2 million during its first weekend.

Though that movie opened on a Wednesday, it’s five day gross ($16.9 million) is still the small opening in his career.

However, it should be noted that For the Colored Girls is the film Tyler Perry has directed that wasn’t his own, and it’s also the first R-Rated film. That said, the movie’s opening should be considered strong.

Reports indicate For Colored Girls had a modest budget of $21 million, much like “Perry’s past films”, meaning that the film will easily become a success story for Liongate Entertainment.

After ruling the box office last week, Saw 3D fell to fifth place, bleeding 63.6%, a typical franchise drop. With $8.2 million this weekend, Saw 3D has taken in $38.8 million domestically, and more than $50 million worldwide. Still one of the lowest performing movies in the Saw franchise, but an improvement over Saw IV.

Red continued to impress during its fourth weekend in theater, losing an incredibly small 17.4% worth of ammunition, and taking in $8.58 million. Considering the amount of competition that was released to theaters this weekend, that’s notably impressive hold. The action-comedy passed $70 million this weekend, with no signs of slowing down.

Falling harder than its predecessor, Paranormal Activity 2 grabbed another $7.29 million during its third weekend of release, bring its domestic total to a large $77 million. It’s worldwide box office total also crossed $125 million worldwide this weekend, or more than 40 times what it cost to produce.

Jackass 3D actually had a strong hold this weekend, dropping only 40% to $5.1 million, the comedy featuring outrageous stunts passed $110 million domestically at the box office.

Hereafter had a considerably better hold than last week, losing 37.4% and earning $4.0 million through the three-day frame. The Clint Eastwood directed film has now taken in a total of $28.7 million domestically since its first release three and a half weeks ago.

Rounding out the top ten, Secretariat and The Social Network yet once again displayed their appeal among moviegoers with exceptional holds. Despite losing more than 450 locations this week, Secretariat slowed down just 20,1% to $4.0 million, taking its total to $50.96 million, or about four times its opening weekend gross.

The Social Network, the David Fincher directed film, took a 900 plus location hit this weekend, but still only decelerated 20.3%. The movie has earned more than $85 million domestically at the box office, and is nearing $40 million worldwide.

Debuting at just four locations this weekend, 127 Hours, the Danny Boyle directed film starring James Franco, had the second best limited release start of the year. It climbed high, earning $266,000 over the weekend, for an amazing $66,500 per theater average. More on this film’s box office performance forthcoming.
