5 Things Wrong With Diddy’s SNL Performance

This past weekend Diddy took his Dirty Money band to Saturday Night Live and delivered a pair of performances that were less than stellar. We are by no means hating but Dirty Money’s live performances of “Coming Home” and “Ass On The Floor,” were at best perplexing and at worst God awful. Here’s why.

Diddy Is Still a Wack Rapper

Sean Combs has always been a C+ grade rapper, at best. The cadre of ghostwriters he has used over the years (Pharaohe Monch, Jadakiss, Aasim, Royce 5’9″) made his two left feet flow more palatable. But all of that goes out the window when he neglects to rhyme on beat, like he did when performing “Coming Home.”

Those Other Two Culprits

Then there are the others members of Dirty Money; singers Dawn Richards (late of Danity Kane) and Kalenna Harper. The ladies can carry a tune but their vocal performances were flatter than pancakes, especially during the performance of “Ass On The Floor” with Swizz Beatz. In said performance they were also rocking feathers. A lot of them.

Swagger Jackson’s Revenge

The Bad Boy roster has gone from featuring the likes of The Lox, Black Rob and Ma$e to Dirty Money and Red Cafe. This makes for a limited amount of talent for Diddy to swagger jack so he decided to go for the next best thing, Kanye West and Drake. Watch the performance of “Coming Home”; note the Drake like hand and arm movements and the Kanye West style herky jerky dance steps. As a former dancer, you’re better than that Puff.

Dat White Girl(s)

Okay, we get it, white girls are the idyllic win of rappers turned pop stars (see: Kanye West). Diddy played so cool during the “Ass On The Floor” performance that he stayed seated while surrounded by three white chicks that looked like they were practicing a synchronized swimming routine. Someone tell Diddy a white girl can be your downfall too (see: Kanye West, again.)

Much Too Much

Diddy has always done it big, it’s part of the man’s appeal. But in both of these performances it seemed like he was just trying too hard. Gold teeth, dressing like a Blood, overdone and poorly executed choreography and over emoting that made his performance of the poignant “Coming Home” come off as insincere. The only thing missing was a bottle of Ciroc on stage.

So does this mean the ‘Last Train to Paris’ is headed for a wreck? Diddy tweeted today that his SNL appearance helped the show gain its best ratings since its season premier (Umm, Robert DeNiro probably had a bit to do with that, too). Be wary if you choose to cop yourself a ticket.
