A St. Louis man is filing a lawsuit against Pizza Hut after he says he received a receipt for his order that referred to him as “Big Black.”
Karly Mayberry says after receiving his food he took a look at the space where his name should be and found the racist remarks.
To be sure he wasn’t crazy and that the terminology wasn’t a name for a new pizza, he says he checked at another Pizza Hut restaurant.
Mayberry was especially upset about the situation because it took place on Martin Luther King day and tells NBC,
“To be an African-American male and have that type of injustice done to you, especially by a Caucasian, on Martin Luther King holiday, it just threw me so hard.”
Pizza Hut has since issued him a letter of apology and two $50 gift cards.
